Taskers in Australia James Tasker, born about 1785 in Buckinghamshire, was tried at the Berkshire Assizes for stealing a pig. Found guilty, has was transported to Tasmania in 1820. He may have left a family behind in England, but he then married Mary Smythe who'd come from Enniskillen, County Fermanagh, Northern Ireland in 1831 and they had 4 children. James died on 3 June 1849 in Tasmania. If you know any more, please leave a message on the Genealogy website here. William Whyers Tasker, born in Hertfordshire in 1811, maried Ann Farr in 1832 but was then convicted of theft in 1831 and sent to Van Diemans Land where he served 11 years. He was then pardoned and married three more times, from 1847 to 1860, leaving relatives in both Australia and New Zealand before he died in 1891. Information thanks to Eileen Luscombe
James Tasker, born about 1812 in Lancashire, married Margaret (or Mary) and had a son James in 1832. He married Mary Lingard in Leyland 1854, with son Thomas Tasker born two years later in Whittle-le-Woods, near Chorley. He went on to marry Martha Annie Broadbent and they
emigrated to Australia, with daughter Mary Margaret Tasker born in 1885 in Ashfield, New South Wales. She went on to marry Thomas James Cobb, with many living relatives around the Sydney area. James Stewart Tasker was born at Cupar Angus in Scotland in the year 1827. He was fifth in a family of thirteen. He was 6'2" tall, a handsome, blue eyed fair man. The family was well connected and had originally lived in France where their name was Tascher de la Pagerie, but had changed to Tasker in migration to Scotland. A kinswoman of the family was Josephine, first wife of Napoleon. He married Christina McGregor, who he met in a hospital in Perth, in 1864. They decided to emigrate to Australia and soon after their marriage left Scotland and sailed to Queensland, Australia in the 'Queen of the Colonies' - from their Great-Great-Grandchild Naomi, descended from Jean Tasker born 1869.
