Taskers in Wales
There are only 600 Welsh Taskers listed on the IGI, with the two oldest families both located a few miles from
the port of Pembroke, in South Wales.
An unknown Mr & Mrs Tasker had a son John born about 1548 at Jeffreston, Pembrokeshire, and a daughter Alison born about 1546, who married David Roger in 1567.
Another unknown Mr & Mrs Tasker had a son William at Steynton, Pembrokeshire, in about 1584. This William may well have a link to the Margaret Tasker born in Wisconsin, USA in 1637. And the IGI has a family tree dating back to William Tasker, born about 1611 in Steynton, who married Mrs William Tasker about 1636, giving rise to a whole clan of over 100 Taskers in Pembrokeshire and South Wales. Find out more by typing his name into IGI's Pedigree Resource File and select the country as 'Wales'.
And in the second half of
the 18th Century, Captain John Tasker of the East India Company purchased Upton
Castle, near Pembroke. You can visit
the gardens to this day!
